Disc Golf Woes
The weather was beautiful this weekend, if a little windy. So James and I decided to try and fit in a game of disc golf after we get all of our errands finished Saturday.
We drove all the way across town to our favorite course, Chandler. Only to find out, Chandler is Closed to the Public. Not just the disc golf course, but the entire park is closed to the public. Apparently, Chandler is a dumping site for ice storm debris.
With Chandler being a bust, we figure since we’re so far out already, we might as well go play a quick nine holes over at Ray Brown in Sand Springs before it gets too dark to play. Only we get there and find that the entire park is different. The playground, a few picnic tables, and a huge shelter (oddly enough without any tables) are fine, but the entire disc golf course has been ripped out and replaced with a flood plain. Lovely. Well, no disc golf for us Saturday. We decide we’ll just get up early Sunday and try to sneak a game in before the kids get up.
Saturday evening after dinner, I go online to look at golf courses. The PDGA site has plenty of courses listed in our area. They don’t have any updates that mention Chandler being used as a storm debris site or that Ray Brown is completely gone.
Sunday morning we decide to take our chances on a new course in Claremore, Pecan Valley. It’s only nine holes, but we kinda want a short game anyway. It’s cloudy and windy, and the forecasters are predicting rain.
But we head to Claremore anyway, not realizing that mapquest has misled us as to where exactly in Claremore this park is. The map showed us the park on the far side of Claremore, when actually it’s pretty much right in the middle. With Morgan on the computer and talking us through directions from google we finally manage to find the park. It looks like a nice little course. Except, it’s totally covered in more ice storm debris. Mountains of fallen trees and broken wood are everywhere. Aaaahhhhgggg.
I guess we just were not meant to play disc golf this weekend.
