Mohawk Park Strategic Plan
Mohawk Park is the largest park in Tulsa County and one of the largest municipal parks (2,806 acres) in the United States. The Mohawk Park Strategic Planning Committee and the Vision 2025 Planning Team have been meeting to develop a plan that is compatible with the park participants and to make it one of the most unique parks in this region. At the conclusion of the Mohawk Master Plan, Mohawk Park will become a regional attraction when the appropriate recreational improvements are designed into the park.
The recreational amenities have now been designed into Mohawk Park and will assist in making it one of the most dynamic parks in this region and realize its true potential in the future. Some of the many improvements that have been planned into the project are new soccer fields, disc golf (already installed, and two of Tulsa’s more challenging courses), lighting, restrooms, equestrian facilities, BMX bicycle activities, skateboard facilities, shelters, roads, labyrinth, running trails, dog-park, gun club expansion, signage and bicycle trails. Other improvements include renovation of existing shelters, roads, parking lots, bathrooms, park amenities, existing lakes and creeks.
The plan was approved at the Board of Adjustment on February 28, 2006. However, after discussion with the Soccer community and staff it was determined that soccer complex on the west side of Highway 75 would change locations with the skate board/ BMX site. This would allow the soccer complex to expand to 32 fields in the future. A consultant has been hired to put together the construction documents for the soccer complex and should start working on the design in April. The skateboard park has been funded privately and should be finished in Fall 2007.
