Tulsans Complete the 31st Annual Tulsa Run
Supporters’ cheers resounded throughout downtown Tulsa as thousands of tennis shoes beat along the pavement and across the finish line at the Tulsa Run on October 25.
The run drew more than 9,600 participants, including celebrity runners Steve Bradshaw and Mayor Kathy Taylor, City of Tulsa “Team Taylor” employees, “Team Taylor in Training” students, and military personnel at Tulsa Run Iraq.
City employees proudly sported their blue and white “Team Taylor” shirts, while a special group of high school students wore gray “Team Taylor in Training” shirts at the race. Thanks to corporate sponsor CommunityCare, city employees were able to participate in the Tulsa Run, many for the very first time. Tulsa Run officials are tallying results as to who won the Tulsa Run Employee Corporate Challenge—Bank of Oklahoma’s Bradshaw Backers or the City of Tulsa’s Team Taylor.
A total of nine “Team Taylor in Training” students participated in the race: eight from McLain High School and one from Rogers High School. These dedicated students had been training with Mayor Taylor for the past eight months, and their perseverance led to a successful finish. In celebration of their first Tulsa Run, Mayor Taylor introduced the students later that evening at the Tulsa Oilers’ game, where the first hockey puck of the season was thrown.
Oklahoma military personnel stationed at Joint Base Balad joined in the race too at Tulsa Run’s race in Iraq. Troops ran a 15K race around the base in Iraq as Tulsa participants honored them with tags purchased to support Operation Homefront. Runners wore tags on their backs with the names of family members or friends in service, or simply “the troops,” to whom they dedicated the race.
All Tulsa Run participants are encouraged to celebrate their accomplishment and log their miles at www.tulsamillionmiles.com, as Tulsa bands together to reach one million miles or more as a city.
